#EngKnowledge: Star Wars Day

Hello again, fellas! Anyone here is a fan of Star Wars? May the 4th be with you.

 

Today is May 4, and the fans of Star Wars proclaims it as Star Wars Day. It’s jokingly said “May the 4th be with you” based on the popular catchphrase “May the Force be with you” from the movie. Although the day was not actually declared by Lucasfilm, many Star Wars fans across the world choose this day to celebrate it. The following day, May 5, called “Revenge of the Fifth” based on the title Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.

 

The month of May has always been important as Star Wars fans. The six live-action movies of Star Wars debuted in May. It was the Original Trilogy (Episode IV, V, VI) and the Prequel Trilogy (Episode I, II, and III) which were released in May. Episode IV – A New Hope (May 25, 1977), Episode V – The Empire Strike Back (May 21, 1980), Episode VI – Return of Jedi (May 25, 1983), Episode I – The Phantom Menace (May 19, 1999), Episode II – Attack of the Clones (May 16, 2002), and Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (May 19, 2005). In addition, the month of May included George Lucas’ birthday (May 14, 1944). George Lucas is the creator of Star Wars.

 

Fans have been celebrating Star Wars Day in many ways. A longtime fan of the franchise might attend the Star Wars events such as an exhibition & costume contest on which they would put some make up on and dress as one of the characters in Star Wars. The fans also organized Star Wars Day party at home. Movie marathon with friends, Star Wars trivia games and they even provide Star Wars themed snacks. The snacks have a unique name that are derived from each character in the movies. There are beverages named R2-Decaf (the name come from a decaffeinate coffe and R2-D2 character), Chai Tea-3PO (the name come from a chai tea and C-3PO character), Yoda soda. A snack called Han-burgers (the name come from a hamburger and Han Solo character), Jabba Jiggle, Wookie cookies, etc. On 2015, a group of astronauts celebrated a Star Wars Day to a whole new level. They watched the series inside the ISS (International Space Station). They watched Star Wars from the habitable satellite which orbits 250 miles away above Earth.

 

Star Wars has gained popularity over time. The ways of celebrating this special day maybe endless, so choose one and have fun. That’s a wrap, fellas! Have a good night, and may the force be with you!
