#EngKnowledge Champions League

Good evening, Fellas! How are you today?

Anyway, let’s talk about UEFA Champions League. Does your favorite football club reach the quarter-final in Champions League, fellas?

Unfortunately, mine doesn’t. Juventus had to admit Bayern Munich’s superiority in Allianz Arena last Thursday. :(

Anyway, congratulations to Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Benfica, Manchester City, PSG, Wolfsburg, and Bayern Munich!

And our session today will be #EngKnowledge: UEFA Champions League. Come out, now, football fans!

The term “UEFA Champions League” was coined in 1992. Before that, it was called “European Champions Club Cup”. #EngKnowledge

The first ECCC took place during the 1955-1956 season. Real Madrid was the first one to receive the trophy. #EngKnowledge

The pre-1992 competitions were straight knockouts open only to the champions of the countries’ league. #EngKnowledge

The present UCL format starts with the qualifying rounds and play-offs which usually begin in mid-July. #EngKnowledge

The top 10 from this round will later join the 22 already qualified teams. #EngKnowledge

The 32 teams will be divided into eight groups of four teams in a double round-robin system. #EngKnowledge

In a double round-robin, each team plays against all the others in the same group in a home-away system. #EngKnowledge

The winner and runner-up of each group will then proceed to the round of 16, again with the home and away system. #EngKnowledge

The final stage will be held at a pre-determined place and concluded in one match. #EngKnowledge

Now, let’s talk about the very well-known Champions League Anthem and the starball logo. #EngKnowledge

The UCL anthem is officially titled “Champions League”. It was written by Toni Britten. #EngKnowledge

This piece was performed by London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and sung by the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. #EngKnowledge

The starball brand was created by Design Bridge after a competition in designing the logo. #EngKnowledge

A small fact, by the year 1999 the starball was said to receive 94% recognition rate among the fans! #EngKnowledge

Having won the tournament 10 times, Real Madrid is the most successful club in the history of the UCL. #EngKnowledge

Meanwhile, Juventus is the best at being the number two; record shows that Juventus holds the runner-up title 6 times. (Yay, I guess.)

So, how was our session today, fellas? Do you have anything to add about UEFA Champions League? #EngKnowledge
