#EngVocab: Re

Afternoon fellas :) How’s your Tuesday going? Hope all is well :D

I hope everything will be better for fellas who are feeling unwell and facing bad weather.. The weather has been unfriendly indeed..

So fellas, today we’re going to have a short #EngVocab session, who’s ready for it? :)

Re…. Re:… Re-…. kita banyak menemukan pemakaian ‘re’ di dalam bahasa Inggris. Menurut fellas, pemakaian ‘re’ seperti apa ya?

A1. @bergurau: untuk kata yang bermakna ‘pengulangan’ min.

A2. @RafaelRafka: Saya tau! Reverse, Rewind, remake, redo, and rethink..

A3. @Milaaprilyap: re=mengulang kembali. Example= restart

A4. @itsserenade: re- termasuk english derivational affix.tapi tdk mengubah word class. Hanya mengubah makna kata, menjadi berulang/perulangan

A5. @riskasays: isn’t it abbreviation for regarding? for example in bussiness letter, we use re to say briefly what that letter’s about.

A6. @mosi_chan@riskasays It’s not abbr. actually. One of the examples of abbreviation is ASAP, n sth like that

A7. @_acherka: “re” artinya bisa perihal.. “re-” dipake kalo mengulang suatu kegiatan

A8. @_acherka: “re” itu preposition dan biasanya muncul di bahasa tulisan, kalo “re-” itu prefix. Arti & pemakaiannya beda :)

But did you know? Kalo ‘re’ dan ‘re-‘ pemakaiannya berdasarkan vowel juga?

As quoted from @guardianstyle :

Use re- (with hyphen) when followed by the vowels e or u (not pronounced as “yu”): for example: re-entry, re-examine, re-urge.

Use re (no hyphen) when followed by the vowels a, i, o or u (pronounced as “yu”), or any consonant, for example rearm, rearrange, reassemble, reiterate, reorder, reread, reuse, rebuild, reconsider, retweet.

Exceptions (where confusion with another word would arise): re-cover/recover, re-creation/recreation, re-form/reform

While from another source www.dailywritingtips.com/regarding-re/ .. :

‘Re:’ is used at the top of letters and emails in order to steer the reader to the single most important topic of the message.

Sepertinya ‘Re:’ adalah an abbreviation of the words “regarding” or “referencing.”

Namun, ‘Re’ is not an abbreviation for anything. Re: means “re.”

‘Re’ is an English preposition in use since at least the 18th century. It means “in the matter of, with reference to.”

A9. @ShadowRWZ: referencing and referring is pretty much the same :)

‘Re’ is a Latin word. It is the ablative form of the Latin noun res meaning “thing” or “affair.”

Hehe bukan hehe -> @amiraasmas: loh aku kira re itu read… (–,)

Demikian penjelasan #EngVocab ‘re’ kali ini :) Semoga bermanfaat :D
