#EngClass: determiner in countable and uncountable noun

Apa itu determiner? Biasanya sebuah noun (kata benda) dilengkapi sebuah determiner di depannya. e.g. a book, one person, some salt.

Kata “a”, “one”, “some” adalah determiner.

Determiner yang akan kita bahas malam ini: a/ an, number (one, three, etc), some, several, a lot of, many, a few, much, a little.

  • a few/a little= sedikit.
  • some/ several = beberapa.
  • many/ much/ a lot of = banyak.

Kapan determiner ini digunakan? Kita mulai dari countable noun ya.

  • Countable noun, singular (bentuk tunggal): a/ an, one. e.g. an apple, one computer.
  • Countable noun, plural (bentuk jamak): number less than one (two, etc), some, several, a lot of, many, a few. e.g. two pens, a few people.
  • Uncountable noun (tidak memiliki bentuk singular/ plural): some, a lot of, much, a little. e.g. some milk, a lot of love, a little sugar.

Jadi misal, “sedikit air” adalah “a little water” (uncountable noun), bukan “a few water”. “a few” digunakan pada countable noun.
