#EngClass: echo questions

Do you know what “echo question” is?

Let’s have a look at the example:

  • “A: I work in a multinational company. B: Do you?”

Contoh “Do you?” menyatakan hal ini.

Kita biasanya menggunakan auxiliary dalam “echo question”. Dalam kalimat contoh “I work in..”, auxiliary = “do”, maka menjadi: “Do you?”

Contoh: “A: Joe works in a multinational company. B: Does he?” BUKAN “Does Joe?”

“A: I work in a multinational company. B: Do you?”

“A: I don’t have a job. B: Don’t you?”

  3. A: I went to Paris last month. B: Did you?

  1. A: They’ve got a really big house. B: Have they?
  2. A: She’s got a serious trauma from an accident. B: Has she?

3) Untuk menanggapi kalimat yang menggunakan verb “be”, kita menggunakan “am”, “is/ isn’t”, “are/ aren’t” pada “echo question. e.g.

  1. A: My house is over 100 years old. B: Is it?
  2. A: I’m so exhausted. B: Are you?
