#EngTrivia: word slurs

Hey fellas! Hari ini kita akan bahas penggunaan relaxed pronunciation atau “word slurs”. Siap?

Slurs adalah pengucapan kata-kata yang dipersingkat dan bersifat informal, jadi hanya digunakan secara santai dan verbal.

Apaan sih word slurs? Apa kalian pernah dengar wanna, gotta, gonna, sorta, dll? Selain 4 slurs itu, masih banyak slurs lainnya.

  1. Coulda [ˈkʊɾə] – could have. Arti: bisa dilakukan, tapi tidak dilakukan. Contoh: He could have begun (V3), but he waited for me instead.
  2. Musta [ˈmʌstə] – must have. Arti: pasti sudah terjadi. Contoh: It must have rained (V3) last night because the streets are wet.
  3. Shoulda [ˈʃʊɾə]-should have. Arti: seharusnya dilakukan, tapi tidak dilakukan. Contoh: He shoulda called (v3) the police when the robbers came.
  4. Woulda [ˈwʊɾə] – would have. Arti: pasti akan, untuk Conditional 3 » andai dulu (if + S + had + V3) pasti akan (S + would have + V3). Contoh: If I had had enough money, I would have flown to Europe.
  5. A lotta [əˈlɑɾə] – a lot of. Arti: banyak, bisa untuk countable dan uncountable noun. Contoh: I might not have a lotta money, but I have a happy life.
  6. Kinda [ˈkaɪɾ̃ə] – kind of. Arti: agak. Contoh: He doesn’t talk much. He’s kinda shy.
  7. Outta [ˈaʊɾə] – out of. Arti: http://bit.ly/Hoi4x4. Contoh: Now that’s enough bullshit! Get outta here right away!
  8. Sorta [ˈsɔɹɾə] – sort of. Arti: agak. Contoh: It sort of makes sense the way he explains it, but I still don’t really understand.
  9. Gonna [ˈɡʌnə] – going to. Arti: akan, untuk future tense (S + be + going to + V1). Contoh: Nothing’s gonna change my love for you.
  10. Gotta [ˈɡɑɾə] – (have) got to. Arti: harus, diikuti V1, synonym – must. Contoh: I must go. I’ve got to go. I gotta go.
  11. Gotta [ˈɡɑɾə] – (have) got a. Arti: punya sebuah, diikuti single countable noun. Contoh: I gotta feeling that today’s gonna be a good day.
  12. Hafta [ˈhæftə] – have to. Arti: harus, diikuti V1, synonym : must. Contoh: I must be there by 10PM. I have to be there by 10PM
  13. Wanna [ˈwɑɾ̃ə] – want to. Arti: ingin/mau, diikuti V1. Contoh: I wanna go to the mall, will you give me a ride?
  14. Oughta [ˈɔɾə] – ought to. Arti: harus, seharusnya, kemungkinan besar. Contoh: They ought to finish the construction by next week.
